LIFE

Feeling all right

B Magazine, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 26/08/2018

» There is a stillness -- borderline boring -- to Scrubb's chosen mode of visual expression. The constant of stony faces and stock-still poses that embellishes all of the band's album artwork, editorial photo shoots and magazine covers is bequeathed on us too, as Torpong "Ball" Chantabubpha and Thawatpon "Muay" Wongboonsiri laugh through gritted teeth that it is actually a strain for them to smile for the cameras or to assume the role of a dancing monkey.

Cool before cool

Muse, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 10/03/2018

» If you ask Torsit Sarisdiwongse how long he has been with Greyhound Café, he will jokingly answer: "Since the day they planted the pillars down in Emporium." This is the very man who has perfected the recipes of hip fusion dishes such as salmon sashimi in hot spicy sauce or fried rice with pla salid 20 years ago -- long before cool and trendy proliferated Thailand's dining scene.

Hip, cool and happening

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 24/11/2017

» Over the past few weeks, one particular investment move from our shores -- somewhat equivalent to Crazy Rich Asian's Astrid going on a haute couture shopping rampage -- has been the talk of the town. Thailand's prominent real estate developer, Sansiri, has just invested 2.8 billion baht to buy shares in six of the some of the world's hippest, coolest and innovative names: Standard International, One Night, Hostmaker, JustCo, Farmshelf and Monocle. It's a result of stagnant sales back home and Sansiri's strategy to offer an all-inclusive living solution to their customers, as their president Srettha Thavisin explains. To choose to invest in companies that are young, inventive and trendy, however, shows how the real estate giant has their sights set on the tech-savvy millennials of tomorrow.

Swiss sights, sounds a moss-see

» If a visit to the famed "valley of the watchmakers" in  Switzerland's Vallee de Joux is a bit out of your league, Audemars Piguet's installation in the Collector's Lounge at this year's Art Basel Hong Kong was a decent stand-in, bringing springtime at its factory to you.

Flights of Fantasy

» Will Simpson, Game Of Thrones’ storyboard artist, was at Bangkok Comic Con last Sunday to share how his artwork influenced the direction of the series at the talk “Inside The World Of Westeros”. Simpson has been working on the series since the first pilot episode and is also the person who created the first look of the White Walkers despite minimal descriptions from the books. Much of the visuals you see on the show, such as the dragons, direwolves and the three-eyed raven, were sparked by Simpson’s input. We bring you his best panel comments regarding the world of Thrones and his job.

A bug's life

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 12/06/2013

» You cannot help but admit that each day it's becoming harder to survive, let alone live. A slug can move faster than the line at Starbucks. The Android is too confusing to use, but it's all you can afford. Home-cooked food tastes too crappy for your liking. Your iPod battery ran out so you had to walk down the street listening to birds chirping like some medieval peasant.
