In fact, she diligently monitored every rehearsal of the orchestra in preparation for this historic event.

» To bid farewell to Bang Khun Phrom Palace before its closure, hundreds of Thais queued and waited eagerly for one last visit to the handsome palace every Saturday morning throughout last month. The palace was once home to Marshal-Admiral Prince Paribatra Sukhumbhand of Nagor Svarga (1881-1944), and later served as a public museum under the supervision of the Bank of Thailand.

The wait is over with the recent launch of the first comprehensive exhibition and a new book on the prince's life and work.

» The Queen Savang Vadhana Foundation in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture will host the "Our Beloved Great King Exhibition" at Ratchaprachasamakhom Pavilion of Klai Kangwon Palace, Hua Hin, Prachuap Khiri Khan, from 9am-6pm until May 28. The exhibition will display 70 years of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej's contributions to Thailand.

Carving out history

» Their skilful hands focused on art pieces they were creating, and their eyes were locked on the details. Their hearts, apparently, were with HM the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who passed away on Oct 13 last year. At the Fine Arts Department's Office of Traditional Arts in Nakhon Pathom, two groups of 20 men and women from all walks of life brought out their best during a recent audition where the office recruited volunteers to help official artisans build a royal urn and coffin and sculpt statues for decorating the royal crematorium.

Like shows in previous years, the beautiful dances, great acting, glittering sets, costumes and props did not fail to wow the audience. Satirical gags referring to the current political situation also brought a lot of laughter.
