Remembering A Prince Of Art

» After two years of temporary closure for restoration, Ban Plainern, the residence of the late Prince Narisaranuvattiwongse -- the Great Craftsman of Siam -- is today reopened for a special occasion. Every year, the Naris Foundation and the Chitrabongs family celebrate Naris Day, the prince's birthday, by opening up the residence in Bangkok's Klong Toey district to distinguished guests on April 28 and to the public all day on April 29.

» Millions of people know Chiang Mai, a northern province of Thailand and the former capital city of Lanna Kingdom. However, few know Wiang Tha Kan, an ancient town from before Phaya Mangrai (1261-1311), the king of Hirunnakhon-ngoenyang on the Chiang Rai-Chiang Saen basin plain, established Lanna in 1296. Now located in San Pa Tong district of Chiang Mai, the ancient town is a historic site worthy of exploration.

'Stone doctors' operate in Thailand

» Two pagodas of Wat Ratchaburana in central Ayutthaya are almost 600 years old, but their beauty is still visible due to conservation efforts. The remaining stucco and plaster at both stupas (prang and mondop), the Buddha statues at the Prang, the floral decoration at the east face of the prayer hall and the stucco at a small pagoda -- they have been preserved partly as a result of a German conservation project in close co-operation with the Ayutthaya Historical Park and Unesco Bangkok.
