Lost in Translation

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 25/06/2021

» At the risk of sounding nostalgic, I enjoy Googling things from decades gone by (exhibit A: Thai vintage ads in my past editor's notes). The Thai language version of famous Hollywood movie posters is another blast from the past I think is highly underrated, especially if you're a language nerd/film buff. Back then movie posters had to be recreated by Thai artists, who hand-painted them, along with creative copywriters, who came up with catchy titles and taglines in Thai.

The first week of "new normal"

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 08/05/2020

» Last Sunday, Covid-19 curbs have been eased as 13 types of businesses were allowed to reopen after a month-long halt while four airlines resume domestic flights to 14 provinces since last Friday. Markets, public parks, food shops, barbershops, pet groomers and more resume operations under safety conditions, giving us back a sense of quasi-normalcy. The silver lining is that more businesses may be reopened if the daily tally of Covid-19 remains low (keeping fingers and toes crossed). In case you want to head out this weekend, you can look forwards to this.

A new curriculum

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 15/12/2017

» On December 8, the Voice TV website reported that two young teachers at the Kamnoetvidya Science Academy School in Rayong invented a new course called Game of Thrones and Social Studies for upper Matayom kids. It wasn't about testing the knowledge of the students on GOT but how all the intrigues throughout the TV series' seven seasons could be discussed in relation to the real world. Kudos for the creativity of the two teachers and the school's board for their open-mindedness. I am a little jealous because back when I was in school there weren't any cool courses to get excited about.

» The setting: If you've been to the ground floor of Siam Paragon before, you know it's an air-conditioned playground for foodies. I will go as far as saying that it's a dining ecosystem with a vast selection of kiosks, cafes and restaurants for you to choose from (and chomp on).

7 Features Facebook Should Give Thai Users

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 24/03/2017

» Who doesn't like a new Facebook update, right? You may already have experienced a new feature which displays exchanges you have with friends on a post in a new pop-up tab similar to the one that appears at the bottom of your screen when you send messages to friends. Now, I like new Facebook tricks as much as the next guy but I think this new feature could irk some people too. You don't want too many tabs cluttering up your already busy news feed, do you?
