Baking up French treats

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 19/12/2014

» What rice is to Thai people, bread is to the French. In fact, the word bread in French, pain, is a very powerful word deeply rooted in their culture. Even copain, or mate in French, stems from having a person to share your bread with. For these obvious reasons, heading to a French patisserie should give you a head start for finding top-notch breads and pastries that cater for richer tastes than the usual offerings at supermarkets. You can carry out your mission at Paul, a 125-year-old French boulangerie, patisserie and "salon de the" chain which recently opened up at Central Embassy.

Sweet dreams

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 31/01/2014

» The north side of Siam Paragon's fourth floor used to be a rather dry and vague void, but today it is filled with pastel columns, and a flouncy cloud-like pink net sprawls across the air to create a canopy in an area called Dream Forest. The centre seating area is engulfed in a completely pink, fanciful and jungle-like theme, is enclosed by six different sweet stores on the fourth floor (True Coffee, Fucheer, Royal Sugar, Tart to Tart, Patisserie Masatomi, Cupcake Love) and four more on the fifth (Custard No. 4, Love to Eat, Mister Donut, Chewy Junior). This lovely quiet location exudes a dreamy ambience, away from the bustle of a typical food floor's commotion and frenzy. Browse around to find a menu that rings your bell, pay at their counter and walk back to your seat and wait to be served all this done gloriously service-free. No more days of bickering, because anyone can eat whatever they want from any store. We visit the most attractive setups at this new hive of sweetness.

A Double Serving Of Fashion

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 06/12/2013

» Imagine if an article of clothing from your favourite designer brand suddenly shape-shifted into a plate of food. The morphing part may still be limited to our sci-fi daydreams, but the food part is very much real. A handful of Thai luxury and fashion brands _ Boyy, Issue, Karmakamet and Kloset _ have recently opened restaurants and cafes within the past five months.
