Let's do lunch

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 28/08/2015

» Lunch doesn’t have to mean quick stop at noodle shophouse, the same old offerings at your office canteen or eating at your desk (and inviting ants to be your new colleagues in the process). Even if you’re not an office worker, you deserve a proper afternoon break -- and the occasional two-hour lunch every now and then never hurt anybody. So why not elevate your lunch experience to a new level? This week, we scan the city for places where you can raise your lunch game.

Fusion sushi sensei

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 07/08/2015

» Sonie, previously located at J Avenue, is back after a five-month hiatus -- and at a new location. While we can't verify its claim of introducing fusion sushi to Bangkok back in 1999, we can swear on our salaries that Sonie proves to be a black belt in delivering savoury sushi rolls, karate pun intended.

Go for a taste drive

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 10/07/2015

» Given the long reputation of Mercedes-Benz as a maker of hi-so sedans, we're very curious as to whether their first cafe in Bangkok will also fire on all cylinders (car pun intended).

Down to earth

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 17/04/2015

» Earth Day falls on Wednesday (Apr 22), but you probably haven't realised that since you're still busy trying to get the white clay from Songkran off your fingernails. Each year, Earth Day sees events organised around the world in support of environmental causes. Since we think you can do better than declining a plastic bag after shopping at 7-Eleven, this week Guru searches for ways us city-folk can go green.

Going somewhere? Go Green

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 13/03/2015

» As an actor, Pipat “Top” Apiruktanakorn, 35, has appeared on both the small and silver screens. But since 2009 he has also played another well-known role — that of an advocate for green lifestyles, opening Ecoshop, which sells eco-friendly yet well-designed products. Last year, it was reincarnated as Ecoshop Common (G/F, Bangkok Art & Culture Centre, Rama I Road, BTS National Stadium, fb.com/ecoshopcommon.bangkok), a combined retail shop and learning centre. To further enable people to embrace their greener side, Top last week launched a smartphone application called Ecolife. Here, Top speaks with us about the app, which is in English and currently available on the App Store and Google Play.

But don’t fret, fellow Bangkokians — thanks to advanced technology and (sketchy) 3G connections, you can solve these problems using nothing but your fingertips. Here’s our selection of apps and websites to help you navigate Bangkok with more ease.
