Sweet cheesus

Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 28/04/2017

» Cheese toasties are one of those deceptively simple dishes that are -- for some reason -- rather hard to find in Bangkok. At least a decent one is, anyways. Sure, anyone could put a slice of bread with a piece of cheese on top, shove it in the grill and call it a day. But that ain't the way I like my cheese toastie.

The spaces between us

Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 07/04/2017

» No doubt, Bangkok has its fair share of issues that hover over the urban landscape. From developers chasing out communities to make way for even more condominiums to the lack of greenery -- and don't get us started on the state of footpaths and the Jackson Pollock-inspired electrical wires we have proudly exhibiting all around town -- there's clearly a lot for our eyes to take in.

Taking the plunge

Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 31/03/2017

» Isawan "Oil" Sutthinark may be a familiar name in the circle of Thai designers. And although we're huge fans of her super sleek handbags, recently we've been more drawn into her other new project, Suntan Tour (fb.com/Suntantour), a boutique travel company dedicated to free-diving. You may have seen some of her diving pics on Instagram and wondered how she got into the sport? Well, Guru's got you covered as we sat down with our favourite thalassophile to find out more about her unique tour and where, in her opinion, the best places are to free-dive.

Peace of prim

Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 10/02/2017

» If you've ever found yourself around Thong Lor with time to spare -- whether it's waiting for that forever-late friend or in the rare instance when you find yourself being unfashionably early -- aside from drinking or eating your way round, there's really not much to do. Sukhumvit may be laden with spas, but the Golden Soi certainly could do with a few more -- especially ones that aren't going to tear your wallet apart. You know, not everyone who wants to get pampered needs to be dipped in a gold bath and get charged their monthly salary for it.

Flip the health switch

Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 27/01/2017

» The new year brings about so many idealistic goals and changes -- and from our own past experiences, let's just say that it's fairly likely that not all will be achieved by February. So we figured, instead of completely cutting out sugar or carbs from your diet, how about making a few healthy swapsies instead.

Breaking bad news

Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 27/01/2017

» Now that 2016 is finally over, we can rest assured that all the bull**** and f**kery it brought with it will never be repeated. Right? RIGHT?! Bleh, who knows what the future has in store for us. Let's face it, this time last year the thought of Trump becoming the 45th President of the United States probably made you spit out your coffee or, if you're a hipster, choke on your kale juice. But then again, never say never, right?

Hey, soul sister

» When Lezlie Harrison sings, she captures the attention of the whole room. We've had the pleasure of listening in on one of the nights she was performing and we fell head over heels with her sound and bubbly personality. Hailing from New York, she has returned to our beloved city and graced us with her original take on jazz, blues and soul music at The Living Room. Guru chats to her as she lets us in on her favourite artists, what she thinks about the jazz bars in Bangkok and a few of the non-touristy must-do's if we ever find ourselves in the Big Apple.

Moly says Moo

Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 20/01/2017

» Dainty-looking gourmet pies probably come to mind when you mention the name "Holy Moly". And although we love their savoury and sweet offerings that are neatly packaged in delicious puff pastries, our recent visit to their new stall in Siam Paragon had us drooling over a new (albeit surprising) range of treats.
