Finger pickin' good

» All-female rock band The Black Nails consists of frontwoman/guitarist Pattaraporn "Synth" Saengsamang, bassist Nuengruethai "May" Issaard and drummer Malaivee "Mew" Swangpol. Even though two of them were born into very musical families (Pattaraporn's father Narongruch Saengsamang is a music producer while Malaivee is the daughter of celebrated songwriter Jackrawut Swangpol), their path to a music career has been no shortcut. They have shared a similar journey in proving themselves by entering talent searches, going to music schools and working with small labels. When the three crossed paths, they formed The Black Nails. The trio successfully passed an audition and landed a deal at rock giant Genie Records, as they released their first single Duay Dee (Going Fine) under Showroom Projekt.

» Currently hosting four shows, Kris Srepoomseth is a mainstay on the telly. But he isn’t your average TV emcee. The media proprietor runs six companies, one being Feel Corporation Co, Ltd, of which he is CEO. Kris has recently begun a new ambitious project, Maya Music Festival — A Miracle of Art, Magical of Sound (www.mayamusicfestival.com). The EDM blowout — planned to be an annual event — will make its debut at the outdoor area of the 11th Infantry Regiment King’s Bodyguard on Mar 7 (tickets B2,500, B4,000, www.thaiticketmajor.com). Bridging local tradition and Western modernity, the event will feature a 20m-long naga, sculpted by a team of Thai artists from Silpakorn University and Poh Chang Academy of Arts, which will slither along to the sounds of headbanging electro music spun by heavyweights Steve Angello and Markus Schulz, along with a line-up of Thai talent.

» Tokin Teekanun is a man that wears many hats. He makes films, directs music videos and plays in a band called Triggs & The Longest Day. Apart from that, the 32-year-old runs left-field music fests Stone Free and Keep On The Grass Folk Music Festival, which have brought a breath of fresh air to the Thai alternative music scene. Tokin is now busy working on the third instalment of the down-to-earth acoustic folk jam Keep On The Grass, which will take place in Saraburi on Jan 31 (fb.com/KeepOnTheGrassMusicFestival, pre-sale ticket B1,000) as well as curating artworks for two upcoming exhibitions at The Jam Factory and BACC.
