» Evoking the colours of an Italian sunset, a lush display of flowers that deck the Author's Lounge at Mandarin Oriental set the stage for Bulgari's first event of the year in Thailand. This trunk showcased over 100 pieces of extraordinary high jewellery pieces from various collections, 20 of which were exclusive one-of-a-kind. A handful of timepieces for gents were on display too, and the brand's full-scale presentation is an indication that the Roman jeweller is doing well and emerging from the pandemic in strength.

Starting today, CentralWorld will resume its role as one of Bangkok's major stomping grounds as 14 shows from 18 designers run through Sept 2. » Last year, it was the tuk-tuk dress for the Miss Universe contest, hailed as innovative and also raising eyebrows for its curious design. This year, the original idea for the national costume to be worn by our beauty queen at the Mrs Universe pageant caused giggles rather than uproar: a Suwanna Chedi dress, or imagine our contestant wearing a golden pagoda on her body. The organiser decided to scrap it after much public ridicule, and on Monday unveiled a new design based on pla tapien, or a tropical carp-like fish.

» Hirankrit Pattaraboriboonkul designed that tuk-tuk costume for Miss Thailand Universe, the dress that garnered praise, flak and one declaration from a hater that he'd eat dog poo if it won awards. Also working as a freelance costume designer on the side, Hirankrit's entry was one of the 365 to be submitted to the Creative Thai contest held by Miss Universe Thailand.
Roy: A film to test the patience

» As a movie that takes forever to start and forever to end, glaciers move faster than Roy. Coined as a "romantic thriller", this work of 147 minutes by debut director Vikramjit Singh is anything but and should instead be called a patience tester. Regardless, there's some good in this eye-candy fest too, making it a specimen of what could fit into both the dos and don'ts at film school.

» You may roll your eyes at that sassy girlfriend of yours who keeps whining about never having anything to wear and how she would never ever wear the same outfit in public more than once unless the cows came home. There will always be that one friend who takes that pledge to the extreme, but admit it, the little social tumour that prefers to not be seen in the same outfit twice does exist in all of us.
