» I recently embarked on a family holiday to Japan. It was only our fourth visit in 10 years. This time we paid a brief visit to Osaka and Kobe, but in my opinion, the highlight of the trip was my first ride on the Shinkansen, Japan's high-speed train.

» The best gift my parents gave me, in particular my father, was his insistence that I be educated in Britain; England to be precise. I guess being sent to England at a young age has become part of our long family tradition, and although it does have some drawbacks, I believe the pros far outweigh the cons.

» Thailand is not a failed state by any stretch of the imagination because the primary institutions of the state _ such as the military, the legislature, and the executive and judicial branches of government _ seem to be, on the surface, functioning well enough.
