» Being stuck at home for the summer is no joke. There is no beach, no water-splashing wars and no air-conditioned malls (for the most part) that can cool us down during this 30C-plus weather. Though we can always order ice cream to our doorstep to cool us down.
Welcoming a new decade!

» For those of you who may have missed it, we are in a new decade. Yes, you read that right. No, you are not hallucinating. Yes, we are all old. Welcome to the beginning of the 2020s where films like Back To The Future and Blade Runner are not just classics but the future worlds depicted in them are now effectively in the past; where years like 2050 and 2060 no longer sound ridiculous like they did back in the early 2000s and where those born in 2000 are 20 years old. It's a lot to take in, that's for sure. With every new year also comes the declarations of "New year, new me" posted all over social media and vocally announced at dinner tables everywhere. Resolutions are made and kept for a good two weeks or so before being thrown out the window. So instead of trying to expect things to happen that we aren't even sure will happen, let's take a look at the stuff that we're fairly certain will happen this year. Here's a couple of things to look forward to this 2020.

It's also home to a variety of homegrown talent be it in the entertainment industry or elsewhere. Sure, you can probably name a bunch off the top of your head that people go gaga for right here in the country, but there's also a number of them who are pretty well-known internationally, some of whom you may not be aware of. Either way, these are people who are making their motherland proud and whose works are worthy to be celebrated. » Living in Bangkok has its share of ups and downs. Then again, what city doesn't? We know we complain about living in the city in every issue we publish (we have plenty more) but that doesn't mean there are people who share the same grievances, but unlike us who just whine, have decided to do something about it. Sure, there are plenty of things to be improved upon or done away within Bangkok and we're pretty sure we all can write a long list. But we're sincerely glad to see that there are services like these that make not just living in Bangkok a little easier, but also living a greener, more-eco friendly life in the city more viable. » Last weekend, eager Bangkokians finally got a chance to wander through the massively enchanting Iconsiam retail and entertainment centre. Co-developed between Siam Piwat, Magnolia Quality Development Corporation and Charoen Pokphand Group, Iconsiam is the biggest retail complex in Thailand, featuring majestic architecture and global stores with luxury brands to provide a shopping experience unlike any other (minus the heavy traffic that comes with it).
Beyond the ropes

» In Bangkok's Charoen Krung area, tucked within an alley lies Maison Close, a dark bar/art gallery and home to some of the more uncommon tastes in art from abstract calligraphy to ero guro. However, as you enter the venue on some nights, art isn't the only focus but a blindfolded woman hung in suspension with ropes. The ropes have been tied up by a rope artist and her model serves as a canvas for elaborate and intricate patterns. Despite looking uncomfortable, the model, dubbed a rope bunny, is in a state of stillness and relaxation, with the ropes symmetrically wrapped around the curves of her body -- something beautiful or mesmerising. This is shibari or the art of Japanese rope bondage. Enter at your own risk.

» Bitterman, on Sala Daeng Soi 1, is a 40-year-old house complete with an atrium, full of plants. The restaurant also has leather chairs and tables inside. But since sitting outside in Bangkok is rare, the glass house is by far the most popular, especially during dinner and at weekends when brunch is served. It is also the best spot to be in the afternoon while the warm sun bathes you through the glass, which makes you forget you're in Bangkok for a wee bit. "Even though the concept of the restaurant is home cooking, I think it's a tad boring so I have changed the way we present the food. The best way to describe my menu is simple and sexy," laughs chef de la cuisine Enzo Dela Cruz.

The young creative executive has won many awards, been featured in several publications and has illustrated for a handful of high street and luxury fashion brands -- but that's not his true calling. As someone who loved to draw since he was five, it was only natural that Kantapon's veins throbbed to become a full-time artist -- to draw his own creations and not what others briefed him to. After three years of working for advertising agencies, he packed his bags and headed to New York to become an artist.
