» T'was the night before Christmas, and all through Bangkok, the desperate were up, making final appeals to the Claus. Then a slight internet glitch occurred, which for some reason rerouted a handful of North Pole-bound emails to the Bangkok Post. We didn't mean to snoop, but in order to forward the electronic letters to their rightful destinations, we had to open them. In the process, we found some of the city's most peculiar Christmas wishes.

» When Becky Horace, founder of online publication Seek Magazine, arrived in Bangkok in the beginning of 2013, she noticed her 18-month-old son was severely struggling to adjust, and their decision to seek early medical consultation with the Reed Institute, an autism and learning disabilities school in Bangkok, turned out to be the right one. The experience has tremendously helped him improve — and inspired Becky to found a project to alleviate the struggles of families in similar situations.

OK, perhaps students at the Make Up Arts and Technique School at Wang Thonglang (near Rajamangala Stadium) aren't going grave-digging at night to find the body parts they need, but they do spend weeks, sometimes nearly a month, making purposely messed-up facial parts from scratch.

» When he’s not working as an international sales executive, Kerati “Boss” Keratichewanun is recording YouTube covers of superstars such as Taylor Swift, Maroon 5 and Justin Bieber. For a guy who, to put it nicely, painfully can’t sing, he sure can make people cry — from laughing. He sings these international radio hits in Thai, and like the upstanding bro that he is, makes sure no word is left untranslated. The result is a brutally literal parody of the original, coupled with equally droll visuals, keeping viewers begging for more.

Colder than ice

» The name Eighteen Below, as you can probably guess, alludes to the exact subzero temperature at which the store's ice creams are kept. This temperature is, in fact, colder than the average -4C because the Hua Hin-originated shop does without a few components of typical commercial ice cream: artificial colours, flavour essences and emulsifiers.
