Wave Hotel Pattaya

Life, Pongpet Mekloy, Published on 18/02/2021

» Pattaya's Beach Road is lined with tons of tourist accommodation. Unlike other upscale properties on the strip, this 18-room hotel boasts a very short distance between the guest rooms and the sea. Literally, it takes just a few minutes to walk from your bed to the beach. Soon after my latest visit to the hotel, the second wave of Covid-19 struck. Pattaya is now open to tourism once again, and so is the hotel.

Ozo North Pattaya

Life, Pongpet Mekloy, Published on 17/12/2020

» Launched in October, this new hotel in the Onyx Hospitality Group, which also runs Amari Pattaya next door, offers modish and convenient accommodation that is also good bang for the buck. The property has 406 rooms. The Dream rooms on the west side of the 18-storey building, like the one I stayed in, come with a sea view. I recommend you pay a little more for one of these rooms rather than the Sleep rooms on the city-view side.

X2 Vibe Pattaya Seaphere

Life, Pongpet Mekloy, Published on 15/10/2020

» Ban Amphoe, an up-and-coming beach destination south of Pattaya and Jomtien, reminds many people of what its famous neighbours used to be like decades ago. This boutique hotel in the area is popular among Thai holidaymakers, thanks partly to its modern design and good value for money. It offers Deluxe rooms (35m²) and Corner Suites (55m²). From some of the units, despite the fact that the property is about 150m from the beach, you can get a distant view of the sea.

Bed Nimman

» Bed is a Chiang Mai-based chain with only four properties. However, you may find several hotels in the northern city that have a similar name and even design, which reflects the small's chain reputation since imitation is said to be the sincerest form of flattery.

Tower Club at lebua

Life, Pongpet Mekloy, Published on 09/07/2020

» Despite its international fame, I'd never been to this award-winning property housed in the iconic skyscraper crowned with a golden dome, and never felt I missed out on anything. Recently, however, I visited the hotel on the first day it resumed operation and realised I was wrong all along. This place has a few things unlike any other. On its reopening day, for example, its restaurant guests were asked to pay whatever they felt like. Surprisingly, it turned out none of the 100 or so guests paid less than the prices listed on the menu. Proceeds of 421,843 baht then went to charities.

Park Hyatt Bangkok

» I was kind of anxious as I entered the hotel's premises, not because it was my first time at the property but because it's the first time in three months that I was to spend a night away from the safety of my own home. However, as the check-in process began the worries started to dissipate. By the time I reached my sanitised room, I was already feeling at home. It was the first time I realised how much the feeling of being in a clean and safe place has to do with the meaning of the phrase.

Home Ayutthaya

Life, Pongpet Mekloy, Published on 05/03/2020

» During a work trip to Ayutthaya, I looked for decent accommodation with a river view that was not only affordable but also worthy of recommendation. This place, 2.5km from the western boundary of Ko Muang (the city island where the historical park is located) fit the bill. It has only five rooms. I was lucky there was one available for me that day.

Cacha Bed Old Town Hotel Bangkok

Life, Pongpet Mekloy, Published on 20/02/2020

» The hotel is housed in a building that originally belonged to Prince Krom Luang Pichit Preechakorn, one of King Rama IV's sons and the country's first president of the Supreme Court. The century-old architecture was constructed not long after Charoen Krung Road was completed. It sits near the point where the Sam Yot city gate once stood. This is a convenient and stylish base for those wishing to explore this old part of Bangkok.
