And if you especially enjoyed the recent instalment, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021), then you might be interested in Netflix's latest documentary The Devil On Trial, which covers a true story. Directed by Chris Holt, this documentary delves into the real-life events that inspired the film and casts a spotlight on the Glatzel family, who fell victim to a demonic intruder. At the same time, it explores the lives of renowned paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, who have become synonymous with The Conjuring franchise.

The exhibition brings his collection of spooky artwork to Thai audiences for the very first time and will be held from Oct 7 to Dec 31 at MBK Center, 4th floor.

» When it comes to new Asian horror films, no title can beat the hype surrounding The Medium, a Thai/Korean flick that garnered overwhelmingly positive reviews among audiences and critics at its world premiere at the 25th Bucheon Fantastic International Film Festival where it won the best film category. The horror film was also recently picked up as an original feature for the streaming platform Shudder in the US and will be released theatrically in Thailand tomorrow, just in time for Halloween.

A new generation slasher

» Recycling stories isn't new but common practice in Hollywood. However, it seems to be the main focus of Netflix lately, especially in the horror genre as some of these movies don't bring anything new to the table. For example, Stranger Things is almost a carbon copy of Stephen King's novels and a few months ago, the Fear Street trilogy reintroduced Gen Z to the teen slasher genre, which was popular back in the 1980s and 1990s, but it too fell short of developing an identity of its own.

Horror tale for the family

» As we get closer to October and Halloween, finding spooky movies to watch with the family isn't so easy. But if you're a fan of horror movies and TV shows like Are You Afraid Of The Dark?, The Twilight Zone or Goosebumps, be sure to check out Nightbooks, a new Netflix dark fantasy about a boy imprisoned by an evil witch in her New York City apartment. The film has gone a bit under the radar even though it's produced by renowned filmmaker Sam Raimi. While Nightbooks is certainly not for young audiences, the 12-year-old inside of me would have absolutely enjoyed this movie.
