Its tranquil yet opulent vibe, attention to detail and superb service make for a stellar stay, living up to the inspiration behind its namesake, which is drawn from the brightest star in the constellation Auriga.

Africa in Pattaya

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 26/02/2021

» The Gems Mining Pool Villas Pattaya may not be next to the beach but it makes up with a unique vibe, spacious rooms and plenty of tree shade. Having opened its doors in November last year, the 77-room resort is a nod to the Africa continent, especially its safaris and precious gems. The decked-out, spacious reception building may give you a sense of arrival into another world where opulence, geometric shapes and nature meet. They do take the African theme seriously and it's evident in the colourful art piece in the shape of Africa above the reception desk, exotic room decors and toilet paper origami, which are in a diamond fold.

Welcome to the fold

» Since the anti-Yingluck (Thaksin) regime protesters began their "Bangkok Shutdown" operation on Monday, traffic in most of the capital has been free-flowing. For the past four days the first thing I do every morning is turn on the Google Maps app on my smartphone to check what it's like on the streets. Every day and at any time of day, the roads and expressways that usually appear in yellow or red on the map depending on the degree of congestion are now delightfully green. Traffic-wise it's as if Bangkok is still in the long holidays mood.

Spa Day to Remember

Life, Nikki Busuttil, Published on 23/12/2013

» Nothing quite matches an early morning trip down the river on the Anantara Bangkok Riverside Resort & Spa's water taxi service from Saphan Taksin. Chug down river and within ten to twelve minutes you find yourself in a tropical resort, with the feeling you were hours away from bustling Bangkok's constant motion. One of the more remote-seeming riverside locations for Bangkok's hotels, it is just a moment away from Asiatique by hotel water-shuttle, reprieve from shopping, pampering before wining, dining and celebrating, Anantara Spa is much more convenient than one might at first think.
