Flawed democracy

» There are not many letters from readers about democracy now just ahead of the Thai election. Nor did the Democracy Index 2018 get any attention in Thai or world corporate media when released a short time ago. Could it be because the country now teaching the world about democracy is not regarded as a true democracy, but ended up at 25th place as a flawed democracy in the same league as some African countries?

» The state of democracy reached in the US and Thailand is miserable, in similar but different ways. The interests of the poor and ordinary wage-workers are diluted in both countries. In the US, this happpens within only two big parties where money and the elite set their agenda over the interests of the majority of the voters who always and everywhere in the world are the wage-workers.

» "Status In Statu" is a group exhibition by art practitioners behind the Khon Kaen Manifesto, on display at WTF Gallery until Oct 30. Inaugurated in October 2018, this biannual event takes place in the unorthodox location -- a non-white cube gallery or a museum -- that allows artists to genuinely embed themselves with the oppressed and to present unique stories through the participation of ordinary citizens.
