Ghost riders in Suphan Buri

Life, Pongpet Mekloy, Published on 24/03/2016

» 'When I was young people believed there was a secret city on this hill. At night, sometimes they heard traditional music being carried by the wind down from the hilltop," Sompong Taengthap, also known as "Hang Nak 4", which is his radio call sign, related in a serious voice. He added that once his father could not be found for two days. When he finally returned home he thought the entire family was crazy because he didn't spend the night anywhere. All he did was go up the hill to collect bamboo shoots and stop for an afternoon nap at Phu Hang Nak.

» Suphan Buri is definitely a superpower in Thailand's BMX scene. One of the major forces behind the success of the province's team is its coach and racer Chakkit Thong-on, aka Achan Daeng, who has won coveted Royal trophies in the Thailand National Championship series for BMX Racing and MTB Supercross events (30-year-old-up category) for five years in a row.

Backpedalling

Life, Pongpet Mekloy, Published on 25/02/2016

» A couple of weeks ago as I was reorganising my hard drive, I hit on picture folders that contain photos from trips to Khao Fah Lap. Dating back to 2006, they made me realise that it had been quite a while already that I haven't been to those mountains of Lop Buri province virtually unknown to most people but regarded with legendary status among hard-core off-road drivers. It's been 10 years!

Navigating a dry stream bed

Life, Pongpet Mekloy, Published on 18/02/2016

» It has been over a year since I first learned about this unique "mountain biking route" in Chiang Mai, which is rideable only in dry months. That's not because the surface becomes muddy during the rainy season like typical off-road trails. Here, it is covered with sand. To be more precise, it's deep sand that is normally submerged under water.

» Noen Maprang is Phitsanulok province's most promising new travel destination. In last week's article (goo.gl/zO0aZi), I wrote about a scenic biking route at Ban Mung near the district's downtown area. But that's not all that Noen Maprang has to offer to cycling enthusiasts.
