LIFE

Constant flux

Life, Kaona Pongpipat, Published on 14/12/2016

» Bangkok Art and Culture Centre hasn't seen this many visitors in quite a while. Today people are everywhere in the exhibition space on the 9th floor even though it is a weekday afternoon. They have never been so involved with the artworks on display and careless as to what other visitors might think of them.

Flight of fancy

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 11/06/2015

» Some things never get old, and the classic farce Boeing Boeing is one of them. Remade and reinterpreted around the world for over 50 years, there was no surprise that the comedy, first written by French playwright Marc Camolleti, would eventually land rather fittingly on Thai shores. A playboy juggling three different air hostess fiancées — I'm not altogether sure that someone Thai didn't come up with this plot.

Woulfe in the house

Guru, Pimchanok Phungbun Na Ayudhya, Published on 10/04/2015

» Brian Woulfe is a tastemaker in more ways than one. At a young age, he was a classically trained pianist and later set up classical music label Landor Records. As an A-list interior designer with his studio, Designed by Woulfe, he makes dream homes for high-profile clients. He also runs a digitally led creative agency, Social with Woulfe. To provide a platform for LGBT professionals, he founded The Village Speakeasy. Now based in Phuket, the Irish-born decorator adds his flair to high-style private quarters, high-end properties and, most recently, the new Judith Leiber showroom at EmQuartier.

New bible for cafe society

Muse, Published on 02/08/2014

» The café culture in Bangkok is changing fast. As those who once queued round the block for their daily dose of Starbucks disperse in favour of one of the trendy independent coffee shops that have popped up around town, our morning caffeine fix has developed into somewhat of an art form, and Anette Moldvaer’s Coffee Obsession compiles everything a coffee artiste needs to know. Moldvaer’s offering brings new meaning to the term “coffee-table book”, covering, as it does, everything from the origins of the coffee bean to detailed instructions for making the perfect Mazagran (that’s a Portuguese iced coffee to you and me). Even if you haven’t grown out of a taste for venti non-fat dirty soy chai, Coffee Obsession will help you appreciate what Starbucks baristas go through when you order a beverage at that chain or — better yet — teach you how to make one from scratch.

Taking an active role

Life, Anchalee Kongrut, Published on 07/07/2014

» Oraya Sutabutr has spearheaded many urban environmental campaigns, such as the Quiet Bangkok anti-noise-pollution effort, the Bangkok Bicycle Campaign, the Big Tree Project and the recent Big Trees Project’s Farmers’ Friend Rice that creates direct link-ups between organic rice growers in Yasothon province and consumers in Bangkok.

LIFE

Cubic concepts

Life, Published on 16/05/2012

» Step by step, little by little, we make a big move. That seems to be the underlying motto of the citywide exhibition called "Ideacubes", in which 100 artists participate in creating exactly that: cubes of ideas on how to make little things that count, little things that probably make this world friendlier and life easier to endure.
