LIFE

Land of the free, home of the breakfast!

» A quick, minute-long walk from Asoke sky train is all it takes to find The New Yorker. We recommend you start with the Everything bagel (B105). Warm, crunchy and toasted with a generous side of cream cheese. To drink we recommend the Cappuccino (B75). Steamed right in front of you, it is a refreshingly smooth and silky start to your morning; they also have freshly squeezed orange juice (B35). Among the most popular breakfast items is the Waffle (B155); and rightly so! Made with homemade batter, it is crisp, fluffy, light and buttery. Served with a side of 100% pure maple syrup, you can lather it on like a rich sugary dressing. Great for sharing.

On the right track

» The setting: A stone throw away from Makkasan Airport Link and Petchaburi MRT and nestled high above the hustle and bustle of midtown Bangkok is The Station, Mercure Bangkok Makkasan's answer to luxury, all-day dining. Towering eight floors above a cacophony of car horns and motorcycle engines is an escape into solitude and a gateway to culinary satisfaction. With high ceilings and wall-to-wall glass windows, it offers an open and sophisticated ambience along with picturesque views of midtown and beyond. You'll see snapshots of commuter life, from the airport rail, to the train and the fast-moving Kamphaeng Phet Road which make The Station aptly named. It is also aptly decorated with a theme that pushes its namesake. Tasteful yet subtle designs reflect the atmosphere of a grand central station, with vertical bars on booths that emulate the cattle catcher. The plush seats are reminiscent of the interior in a luxury carriage. Above is a giant sky window with a neat graphic of what looks like the dome of a grandiose train station, really pulling the look of the room together.
