» Most of the crew were playing cards when the call came out that they were under attack. A speed-boat with six pirates intercepted the Sathaporn Wattana in waters off Pattani's Nong Chik district. They struck in broad daylight on Oct 2, and seven of the eight-member crew stood no chance. The eighth was an inside man, working with the pirates on a three-month criminal operation to steal some of the large amounts of cash washing over the southern Gulf of Thailand.
