Tailored eyewear

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 29/02/2016

» When you sell glasses that don't use a single screw -- that can be sat on, bent and even left under the sun for hours in awkward angles and not break -- the product clearly speaks for itself. In fact, Berlin-based eyewear company Mykita is so refreshingly free from marketing gloss that their spring summer campaign for 2016 simply uses the founder's friend's daughter, his dog and his dog-sitter as models.

In the dark

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 13/01/2016

» Thailand's advertising industry occupies both the highest and lowest grounds when it comes to pushing creativity. But, at the opposite end of the spectrum, we also sometimes attract international media attention for the wrong reasons, such as the discriminating ads that continue to infiltrate the public sphere. Last week, beauty company Seoul Secret caused an uproar with its whitening pill tagline that brazenly voiced what other skin-whitening ads in Thailand have been subliminally implying for decades: "You just need to be white to win."

Silence is the enemy

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 25/11/2015

» The course of Linor Abargil's life has been shaped by two extremes -- she was raped at knifepoint at 18 and six weeks later she was crowned Miss World 1998. Her story of survival and how she got her rapist a 16-year sentence in jail has turned Abargil into a household shero in her homeland Israel, as well as a globe-trotting advocate fighting against sexual violence. The 35-year-old has spoken about it extensively, probably over a hundred times all over the world in various centres and interviews -- not that it becomes any easier each time.
