On Friday the 21st, at 7pm, the Foreign Correspondents Club will be playing host to award-winning Spanish photojournalist Omar Havana, who will be speaking of his experiences working on Endurance, a photo book chronicling the lives of people in Nepal following the devastating earthquake that left the country in ruins in 2015. The book will be on sale at the event.

» 1. Until March 31, Paul Smith -- the British fashion brand that coined the phrase "classic with a twist" -- will host a pop-up installation featuring home products from Italian brand Toiletpaper, a collection of classic-looking porcelain cups, bowls and plates that sport a variety of strange, printed patters, such as a horse, a plumber or a set of palm-less fingers (don't ask us why). The installations can be found at the Paul Smith official stores at EmQuartier and Siam Paragon.

» 1. This upcoming Friday will see the release of the Nintendo Switch, the Japanese gaming titan's first console since the under-performing Wii U which was released in 2012. Touted as a hybrid between traditional home consoles and the handhelds Nintendo has long been known for, the Switch will feature a detachable screen that can be carried around for gaming on the go, as well as an HDMI-connected dock that will allow games to be played on a regular TV. The exact prices in Thai baht have yet to be announced, though the console will retail in the US at $300 (approximately 10,000 baht).

» Dashboard cameras have been around for many years. However, the device has increasingly made its way into the collective consciousness of Thai society after a spate of road-rage incidents -- some with fatal consequences -- that dramatically and legally hinged on the crucial evidence of recorded images from the car cameras. The government this week also hints that it may mandate every new vehicle to install a camera on the dashboard, probably in effect before Songkran season in April.

» When the news broke late last year that TrueVisions -- the largest cable TV service provider in Thailand -- would be cutting off six film and television series channels from their line-up beginning this year, a swathe of the network's subscribers were left in doubt as to the necessity of actually owning a cable TV subscription. After all, with online platforms like Netflix, Iflix, YouTube and even Facebook giving us the ability to access our preferred media content at any place or time of our choosing, many consumers are now given more choices in how they can consume media content than ever before.

» Earlier in September, Japanese video-game fans enjoyed the Tokyo Game Show 2016, known as the biggest consumer game show in the country, where thousands of games both well-known and obscure are showcased on the convention floor for thousands of attendees to see. Among the thousands of game developers there were Thai company MAD VR Studio, who was there to showcase their first game, a horror game set in a Thai hospital, Araya.

At BTS Siam, for example, there are large digital screens that regularly show the faces of individuals -- children and adults alike -- who have been reported missing by their loved ones. But despite seeing these faces on a daily basis, how many of us can say that we recognise them enough to know when we pass them on the street? How many missing persons could have been found if everyone on the street knew what they looked like?
