The village has recently become a destination for those who want to learn about or see ganja (marijuana) plants.

» Roosters crowed an hour before dawn. Since every family in the hilly village of Ban Huay Tong Kor (also spelled Ban Huai Tong Ko) in Mae Hong Son raised chickens, the cry was pretty loud and seemed to be nonstop. It could wake up even those drunk on local rice wine from the night before.

» Khao Lak Canal flows slowly from a mountain to the village of Ban Khao Lak in Trang's Muang district. Both sides of the stream are green forest. The canal later merges with another canal called Lam Phu Ra which ends at the Trang River.

Nuts about cherry blossoms

» Wild Himalayan cherry trees, known in Thai as phya suea khrong, shed leaves during the cool season, leaving only brown branches that make them appear as if they are dying trees. But on the tips of a few of the branches, pink flowers still blossom. Imagine what it would be like if all those branches had cherry flowers in full bloom, with their pink feathery canopies set against the bright blue sky.
