An introduction to Franco-Chinese dining

Guru, Pasavat Tanskul, Published on 09/11/2018

» Thong Lor's Arena 10 entertainment hub is known for its nightlife hotspots of bars and clubs. However, standing out within the hustle and bustle of it all is Prelude Restaurant & Bar with its fine dining presentation, relaxed vibe, tasting menu and cocktails. With an emphasis on using fresh, locally-sourced ingredients and combining their love of French and Chinese food, and cooking techniques, Prelude is named after their aim -- to introduce diners their Franco-Chinese fusion cuisine, as well as being the first restaurant by owners Holly Chiu and chef Calvin Wong, the latter graduating from the Culinary Institute of America.

Sound hounds

» Bangkok's underground electronic music scene has been rapidly growing in recent years. There are various events focusing on different music genres which include house, disco, techno as well as the subgenres within, which there weren't as many a few years back. Western influences have changed the music landscape and conversely, Thai acts have begun to take inspiration from their style to apply on their craft. We chat with six Bangkok-based DJs and acts, artists who are putting in the sweat to expand and gain exposure in the underground music scene. These DJs have made a significant impact on the dance music community in recent years and Guru feels the need to give you, especially you who love the underground dance music scene, a proper introduction.

Fire & ice

» It has been a month since we've cooled down under the blistering heat celebrating Songkran. Parts unknown

» Named after the house number and the road where it is located, 100 Mahaseth serves North and Northeastern Thai cuisines with a modern twist. Those who frequent the Charoen Krung area or work in Sathon or Silom may have walked past 100 Mahaseth's metallic rust-coloured front with a warehouse-garage looking facade a few times, as the restaurant opened last September. Originally opened only for dinner, 100 Mahaseth has expanded their opening hours to include lunch. And for those who haven't dined here, prepare to have an unique dining experience -- nose-to-tail.

Meat-tastic

» The setting: Meat lovers rejoice, there is a new meat-centric restaurant in town. The Meatchop is one of the latest entries in Sala Daeng Soi 1, which is already home to many eateries in the area. Recognisable by its all-black, retro-inspired front, the restaurant's glass-framed door entrance sits snugly between two wide, cylindrical windows. Similar to a butcher shop, the left side displays the restaurant's deli section with its selection of imported cold cuts to entice diners to have a taste of their specially-selected meats and cheeses from around the world. While there are seats and tables outside, you'd miss the lively atmosphere inside.
