» Transparency and public interest must be a priority when the government decides whether or not it will extend Bangkok Mass Transit System’s (BTSC) concession for the skytrain’s Green Line. Last week, the cabinet withheld its approval to extend BTSC’s concession for 30 more years, as proposed by Interior Minister, Anupong Paojinda, following strong opposition from the Transport Ministry.

» I'm sure, I'm not the only one who has been rethinking Thailand's nickname The Land Of Smiles. According to Win Lyovarin, two-time S.E.A. Write winner and 2013 National Artist for Literature, Britisher David Lander, creative director at an ad agency, should be credited for coming up with the phrase. Lander came up with the slogan in a pitch for the Tourism Authority of Thailand. Fun fact: The Land Of Smiles is also the title of a German operetta, which premiered in 1929.

Apart from checking if a train is running or delayed, commuters find it helps to remain flexible in case authorities suddenly order the train services to temporarily shut.
