From its humble storefront in a pint-sized soi, you'd never imagine to find beyond the doorway, a skylit tunnel that seats nearly 70 diners.

» The Commons isn't only good for the drinks and savoury bites at its downstairs canteen. It's also good for when you're craving waffles, because we know damn well you're more likely to get dressed and be seen at the Commons than get out that unused waffle iron you have at home.

That got us thinking. We’re the experts on practical life in this city. Shouldn’t we be the ones to say what needs to be taught in school, so that future Bangkokian grown-ups can have the savvy start us alumni weren’t privileged enough to have?
Beef & Shake Doesn't Miss a Beat

» The first time I visited Beef & Shake, unannounced, I was around Chong Nonsi, hungry and also desperate for a place to briefly anchor ship to put the finishing touches on a story I was supposed to submit a day earlier. Knowing my affinity for mushroom burgers, my entourage suggested a new burger place near the BTS that had, not just one, but several options of fungi burgers.
Roads, actually

» Tests are supposed to measure what we know, or, more accurately, what we don't know but should know. That's why it's problematic when we're passing exams but failing in the real life situations those exams sought to mimic. This could easily be alluding to the shape of our national education in general, but we're directing our frustration to a specifically aggravating application of skill in this country: driving.

» I was very upset when my regular tea place at Silom Complex vanished without notice -- at least I wasn't notified. I had so many memories there: using the free Wi-Fi to submit my Guru articles and being constantly convinced I needed another nifty tea gadget from the little boutique. Hung up on the loss, I didn't think I'd ever embrace the replacement. But to my inner skinny-bitch's defence, it's an organic salad and juice bar. Life goes on, people.

» The latest grab-and-go taco joint to grace the scene is the Ta’cone truck, run by childhood best friends Poom and Nuch. As can be expected from a food truck, the menu is kept simple. But I really I wasn’t expecting tacos to be downsized to only soft-shell.
