» Last week, a regional forum was held in Luang Prabang for countries in the Mekong River Basin to discuss the Pak Beng hydroelectric dam planned by Laos. It was organised by the Mekong River Commission (MRC), the only organisation that works directly with the governments of Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam to jointly manage the shared resources and sustainable development of the river.

» The protesters are clad in green T-shirts. They raise banners which read "No Coal", "Save the Environment". The place is Government House. The scene feels like deja vu. I have to pinch myself as it seems like I am back in the late 90s, a time when environmental protests were frequent across the country.

» Oh yes, I was constantly asked, challenged and reprimanded. "Are you cycling in Beijing?" And: "Why don't you ride a bicycle in Beijing?" And then, a line which came out like an insult: "It is good that you don't. You will get hit by a car anyway." Ouch.
