Mountain bike Mecca

» ‘Slickrock Trail”, near Moab, Utah, is arguably the world’s most iconic mountain bike trail: the sandstone there offers extraordinary traction and this reportedly allows riders to pedal up exceptionally steep inclines. Conveniently located nearby is the equally famous “Porcupine Rim”, also high up on many a mountain biker’s bucket list. So, in April, we decided to escape the Songkran heat and head to the Southwest US.

The Canal Protection Act of 1941 noted that Bangkok east of the Chao Phraya River, the area officially called Phra Nakhon, had a total of 64 canals while the portion of the metropolis lying on the west bank, Thon Buri, was served by 31 canals. However, in the interim, many of these have been filled in and built over or have become so silted up they are now too shallow to be navigable.
