Envision a vision in pink

» Pinkplanter X Bonca Cafe opened its doors about three months ago and it sits on the third floor of the Matchbox store, a three-storey wonder already pretty decked out in pink, with cool clothes and accessories to purchase. The pinkness goes to a whole new level when you reach the top though. The cafe itself is even more pink; pink chairs, pink walls, pink kitchen counters and to balance it out, there are fairy lights and green ferns hanging beautifully from the ceiling and walls covered in cutesy quotes such as "You had me at Aloha"; "Tropical Vibes"; "I Love You Like a Fat Kid Loves Cake" and our personal favourite, "I Love You Matcha". When we build our dream house one day not so far away, the cafe's theme is kinda the look we want to go for. Oh, and did we mention the place is bursting with pink flamingoes?

» New things to do in Siam!? What an obvious story, we hear you say, dear readers! Another one about what's going on in the square mile of Bangkok's beating heart, which has been the epicentre of the city's art, culture and fashion scene since the 70s. Well, actually, new developments have occurred which simply cannot go unnoticed! And while researching the new, we found ourselves re-igniting that old flaming passion we had many years ago for the square. Some things don't change, and other things do, but it's safe to say that if you spend a day here, you'll locate that pulse that gives life to all your inspirations, be filled with new tastes and colours and perhaps pull an all-nighter working on your next big project. » <b>The setting:</b> Next to Thong Lor Soi 5 is a rather pleasing-to-the-eye establishment that opened its doors to the public about five months ago. You won't miss the beautiful wooden double French doors that certainly do add a new kind of character to the saturated-with-enough-restaurants area of Thong Lor. Perhaps Canvas will stand the test of time and tough competition. Inside is dimly lit, warm and you'll immediately notice the kitchen and its chefs, most of whom are western. You can grab a table on the ground floor, either right by the open-plan kitchen which is surrounded by a copper-esque counter for guests to sit at or slightly further from the kitchen at a table; wherever you sit on the ground floor, unless you're sitting with your back turned, you'll be able to see the chefs in full swing. Head upstairs if you want something more private.

» We had the privilege to meet with the very talented US-artist Gracelee Lawrence, who recently finished her year as a visiting artist in the Multidisciplinary Department of Art at Chiang Mai University on a Luce Scholars Fellowship. Her exhibition "When Watched" is currently showing at Bridge Art Space (<a href="http://fb.com/bridgeartspace">fb.com/bridgeartspace</a>) and ends on September 16. The exhibition is comprised of digital sculptures, videos, stories on the wall, illustrations and poems made using Google translate. Head there real quick if you haven't already. Read on to find out more about the artist who's breaking conventions and perhaps you may learn a little something too!

» You don't have to be a green geek to enjoy The Green Geek. Although, if you're super into all things organic, healthy and natural, then you will appreciate this store and cafe all the more. It's sorta' like a treasure trove for all things green; well... almost all things! Too bad if you're into a certain shade of green that shan't be mentioned here.
Thailand's female national cyclist is armed and ready

» We sat down with Jutatip Maneephan (Beaze Za), the Thai national team's number one female cyclist who has won gold medals at both Asian Games and SEA Games. She will be going to the 29th SEA Games 2017 in Malaysia this month. Athletes are not made in a day and Beaze Za has been competing since her pre-teens. She's also now currently doing military service and working at the Weapon Production and Defence centre. Bangkok's finally got a nice and varied supply of what you've been dreaming about: vegan cheese. We know you have, admit it! Barefood Bangkok is the engine fermenting the cashew nuts needed to see this cheese through, a process that takes at least a month, depending on how hard you like your cheese. When stored in the fridge, it keeps for... well, as long as you want it to.
Rhyme like a river flows

» A few moons ago, we ran a cover story on rappers based in Bangkok and beyond, province-wise. Although we were happy with the story, we felt like there was one part of the rapper's tale that was left out. The missing piece goes by the name of Maiyarap (Nakalin Jalunvitaya). He's in a band called River Rhyme, which consists of him and his two friends from back home in Nakhon Sawan; their friendship goes way back apparently. He's just come out with yet another single which we will go into a bit later and surprisingly, he just did a rap-based commercial with the anti-dandruff shampoo brand, CLEAR (to watch, visit goo.gl/x7QGZz). Funny where the world of rhyming can take you huh? Take it from us, here is a truly talented artist whose Thai lyrics are like medicine to the ears and pure poetry for the soul. He's raking in fans from all over and has a pretty busy schedule as far as touring goes, (Follow his page, fb.com/realmaiyarap to stay in the loop) so you can understand why we couldn't get hold of him before. But, Guru finally managed to physically sit down with this young artist from Nakhon Sawan to delve deeper into his art form and more importantly, his raison d'etre. Read on brothers and sisters!

» <b>The setting:</b> Meandering through Soi Goethe from Sathon's side, you'll pass a bend before you find the alley in which La Casa Nostra resides. The name, La Casa Nostra, is Italian for "our home". A home it does feel like, not surprising as it once was someone's stately abode. The outside courtyard is picture perfect for a European summer day. In Bangkok, the weather is either too hot, or too wet; on the day we visited it was the latter. This is why we reckon the courtyard is best experienced by night; think candlelight, intimacy, copious amounts of wine and last but never least, live jazz -- if your visiting on a Tuesday. We love the feel of the inside. Cosy and charming. Perfect for a rendez-vous of the Italian sort, be it for the sake of friends, family or a romantic one-on-one.
