Tea for me (and you, maybe)

Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 11/11/2016

» Afternoon tea in Bangkok often brings to mind posh hotels, an uptight atmosphere and a price tag that could have easily bought you three decent meals. And as decadent as they come, sadly not many are able to replicate the ambiance of classic British tea houses, nor have they found a remedy for the plague of crappy clotted cream and bland sandwiches.

Cool finds in Chiang Mai

Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 11/11/2016

» We're not just about the "new". We also dig the cool, the fun, the funky and all things slightly hidden from plain sight. So we did a little detour, stepping into one or two "just-opened" venues and we also honed in on some less-discovered (but totally awesome) places. We tried, we tested and we even got a bit lost trying to find some of these hidden gems. So without further ado, dear readers, here are our top Chiang Mai picks for this year's winter season.

Of rice and ramen

» The setting: Silom isn't shy of Japanese restaurants and ramen joints. Laden with hole-in-the-wall izakayas, tonkatsu dens and ramen stalls, you could do a Japanese food crawl just walking inside Thaniya Plaza. While office workers in other parts of the city enjoy their bowls of boat noodles, the Silom ones are probably tucking into piping-hot ramens during their lunch breaks.

Triple threat

Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 28/10/2016

» These three happy faces you see are the founders of TRIBE, the spanking new indoor cycling studio located in the bustling Ratchadamri neighbourhood. Business partners, they may be, but this trio have been friends since childhood. Their shared passion for spinning led them to create a totally new workout concept that was not only focused on exercise but also on building a community of like-minded individuals who share an interest in fitness, fashion and music. We caught up with Ploy Bhinsaeng, Pasu "Luang" Liptapanlop and Natapa "Joy" Sriyuksiri to find out more about the studio and what the best track is to spin to right now.

It's sunny-side up in Nana

» When I tell people I live on Soi 11, I usually get one of two reactions. It's either "Oh my god, how can you live there?!", or "So -- you can actually walk home from Cheap Charlie's, that's awesome." All in all, it's not a bad area. There are plenty of kebabs around and witnessing the walk of shame around 10am on a Saturday morning is always a treat. What is missing though is a decent place to grab brunch.

Late-night nibbles

» Being one of this year's most talked about bars (and not just because finding the entrance proves to be rather difficult especially if you've pre-gamed elsewhere before), Rabbit Hole has without a doubt garnered much credit from cocktail-lovers. Thanks to the talents behind the bar that continues to deliver fantastic beverages and consistent service.

A political roast

» The last few months left of the year usually welcome numerous dinner parties and gatherings with friends and colleagues. That is, if you're not stuck at the office finishing off all that work that's accumulated and sadly won't magically disappear. Head to another party and maybe it'll all blow over?

A scrub of coffee

Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 14/10/2016

» I don't know about you, but I'm one of those people who can't function in the morning (or anytime of day for that matter) if I haven't had my daily cup of coffee. It's that caffeine kick that allows me to actually converse with my colleagues like a normal human being as opposed to a zombie that only grunts when it feels hungry.

» <b>The setting:</b> The opening of Habito Mall has encouraged many Bangkokians -- whose preference for dining destinations usually won't extend far beyond Thong Lor's reach -- to actually venture a tiny bit further down Sukhumvit Road. This spanking new community mall is basically a melting pot of various cuisines -- albeit all relatively familiar to our palate -- where you're guaranteed to find something for everyone.
