So many books, so little time

» If the number of book events can be an effective indicator of Thai people's interest in reading, we might have more evidence to debunk the fallacious mantra "Thais only reads eight lines a year". From Friday to Sunday, the Bangkok Book Festival 2016 (BBF) is coming back for its second edition at Bangkok Art and Culture Centre -- and don't confuse this literary weekend with the book fairs at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre, in which the audience comes to hunt discounted books.

Fighting, any which way

» The fighting arena was packed. Roars of excitement from fans of Mixed Martial Arts were heard all over the place. At the Singapore Indoor Stadium where the recent One Championship Ascent to Power competition was about to kick off, the atmosphere was abuzz with the enthusiastic voice of the host followed by the screening of short videos introducing fighters. Then two brave men entered the ring and the battle began.

» The curtains are coming down on La Fête 2015, the annual Franco-Thai cultural co-operation festival, as it will be held for the 11th and final time from June 3-20. Next year, according to the Embassy of France, it's likely that shows and performances will be spread out all-year-round.
