» The situation in Myanmar would seem to present a golden opportunity for a useful bit of gunboat diplomacy. What would be the likely result of an American carrier task force standing off the coast in the Gulf of Martaban or Indian Ocean? Perhaps joined by the new British aircraft carrier and French naval assets. Of course it is out of the question for a foreign invasion on the ground. However the Myanmar military might have cause to think again if faced with the threat of having its assets and installations reduced by air power. Including its small air force and command and control capability.

» Re: “Not child’s play”, (PostBag, Oct 25). Unfortunately, in his efforts to defend the indefensible, Vint Chavala falls into a common corruption of those whose position is intellectually and morally untenable. He has either not read Yuval Noah Harari’s excellent books, merely copying what others have said about them, or he has failed to understand what Harari says, or he has committed a more serious moral and intellectual sin.

» Thank you Wasant Techawongtham for an enjoyably provocative read in "The girl who could just save the world", (Opinion, Oct 5). However, Wasant, we can agree Ms Thunberg's message is important while still disagreeing with some of her claims, and certainly with some of the suggested solutions.
