» Last week I watched on TV a couple of half-decent films on American sports -- Moneyball (2011) starring Brad Pitt as a baseball manager and Any Given Sunday (1999) with Al Pacino as coach of an underperforming American gridiron team.
Toffees can't seem to escape Z Cars

» When the Everton players walk out onto the Vicarage Road pitch at Watford today, for a moment they could be forgiven thinking they are playing at home. The Toffees will be greeted by the strains of the Z Cars theme tune, which also heralds their appearance at their home ground of Goodison Park.

» It was 41 years ago that Southampton were involved in one of the biggest upsets in FA Cup history when as a second-tier team they defeated overwhelming favourites Manchester United 1-0 in the final at Wembley. It is the only major trophy the Saints have won, but what a scalp!

» Whatever one's opinion of Sam Allardyce, he struck a very sad figure as he left Wembley on Tuesday after losing his dream job as England manager. It was just sinking in that he had thrown away the biggest opportunity of his lifetime after 67 days and just one game.
