Call of the wild

» Woraphot Bunkhwamdi is a naturalist with a special interest in the sounds of nature and birds. While he was an undergraduate student at the Faculty of Sciences, Silpakorn University, he was walking on Ao Manao beach in Prachuap Khiri Khan at night and heard the tinkling sound of numerous button top shells being washed up on the shore then pulled back into the sea. The sound of the shells left a lasting impression on him. Woraphot returned to Ao Manao several years later, but never heard that sound again since the numbers of button top shells had decreased. This incident was one of several reasons which encouraged him to record the sounds of nature.

» In the difficult lives of labourers, two talented artists, Chaiyan Ninlabon and Maneerat Thamnarak, found inspiration to create works for the exhibition "Early Years Project #6: In A Cogitation", which is on display at Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC). Chaiyan and Maneerat were two of eight finalists selected from 80 applicants for "The Early Years Project #6".

» Nikom Tongpitak, a retired teacher, lives in Ubon Ratchathani far from his grandchildren. In order to maintain his relationship with the little ones during the Covid-19 pandemic, the 73-year-old launched a YouTube channel Kuy Kan Lan Pu (translated as Grandpa Chats With Grandchildren) where he hosts the programme with his grandkids.

» Amid the air pollution crisis and the coronavirus pandemic, artist Terdtanwa Kanama depicts surgical masks as a new necessity, especially in one of his paintings titled Scramble where he drew an angel donning a mask while crying. Adding his voice is Arunsak Paopuree, whose painting Rainy Day takes viewers back to a time before the novel coronavirus outbreak and the PM2.5 conundrum. Arunsak's collection tells stories of a serene life in countryside surrounded with an abundance of beautiful nature.

» "Embracing Khemarat" stars Miss Thailand 2009 first runner-up, Kobkullaya Chuengprasertsrit (Phuen), a real doctor, who plays the role of Ubon Ratchathani physician Ritt Pokkrittayahariboon.
