» Their skilful hands focused on art pieces they were creating, and their eyes were locked on the details. Their hearts, apparently, were with HM the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who passed away on Oct 13 last year. At the Fine Arts Department's Office of Traditional Arts in Nakhon Pathom, two groups of 20 men and women from all walks of life brought out their best during a recent audition where the office recruited volunteers to help official artisans build a royal urn and coffin and sculpt statues for decorating the royal crematorium.

» Even more flawless than previous editions, the Support Foundation's annual khon performance impressed once again at its premiere last week. This year, the featured episode is The Battle Of Indrajit: Prommas, and the beautiful dancing, great acting, costumes and props were as splendid as in previous years -- the setting, however, was more stunning than ever.

Creating a renaissance

» Throughout an hour spent in the Traditional Thai Art room of the National Gallery, we saw only a few Western tourists walking in and around the stunning red Western-style room to admire several of Thailand’s masterpieces. Within 10 or 15 minutes, those visitors left, then it was very quiet at the “Louvre of Thailand”, the Kingdom’s only state-run museum of art with the largest collection of traditional and contemporary artworks.
