Feline Grace

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 02/07/2015

» Step forward into summer with some feisty blues from Kate Spade. This month, the playful American fashion house is inspired by the grace and strength of felines and all things wildcat. Show your regal and graceful streak with the leopard print clutches and prints that come in cat eyes and playful paw motifs.

LIFE

For eccentric fashion enthusiasts

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 18/06/2015

» Check in to Sretsis's latest branch at The EmQuartier for a shopping experience that recreates vibes from the brand's first international flagship in Tokyo, Sretsis Inn. Decked out with gold accents, classic striped sofas and dark mahogany, this corner at the Qurator Zone brings you back to hotels of yesteryear, with clothing racks that look like bellboy trolleys and display cases that epitomise revolving doors. Upon entering, you will be greeted by a concierge desk, fully decorated with a classy, wood panelled façade. Mannequins at the revolving doors are wearing the latest and hottest pieces from the collection — the current being "The Runway Rum: Rock-A-Loha Summer Love".  Launched at this branch before all other stores, this summer collection is where Madonna-esque motifs meets Hawaiian frills. Think hot-pink and neon colours, topped with super-loud plastic accessories. Music notes and piano keys are some of the delicate details this season; hemlines are decorated with irresistibly eye-catching bars of notes. The standout zippers, a well-circulated fashion element from the kitschy decade, also scream 80s rock.

Flight of fancy

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 11/06/2015

» Some things never get old, and the classic farce Boeing Boeing is one of them. Remade and reinterpreted around the world for over 50 years, there was no surprise that the comedy, first written by French playwright Marc Camolleti, would eventually land rather fittingly on Thai shores. A playboy juggling three different air hostess fiancées — I'm not altogether sure that someone Thai didn't come up with this plot.

The tripping mermaid

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 14/05/2015

» If you don't want to prepare for summer by the pool in a girly, sexy or sweet manner, there's the cheeky and kooky option available with Lalalove. Their summer collection, aptly named "Tripping Mermaid", features an electrifying underwater world, where a mermaid makes her way through a bevy of neon jellyfish, coral reefs, cigarettes, octopuses and sea eels. All of the graphics are brought to life by a collaboration with Oh Hatairat, that cool gal who influences the hip-conscious with her big-eyed illustrations, magazine columns and music. Even though she is mostly known as the bassist of the band Futon, her works as an illustrator are also recognisable, with their own eerie femininity.

Tied to a Sino past

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 04/05/2015

» The unavoidable and never-failing icebreaker -- do you have any Chinese blood? -- will always have its place in Thai society. Yet it's also something of an empty question, believes Singaporean author Jeffery Sng: "By the time Phibunsongkhram changed the country's name to Thailand, the Thais were already so mixed that it was hard to find anyone 100% Thai."

All grown up

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 26/03/2015

» Growing up is one trait that never seems to fail in the world of fashion. HRH Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana has been designing fashion collections for about a decade now and if last Thursday's presentation of her 2015 spring/summer collection is anything to go by, it's not a lie to say that she keeps getting better with age.

Counting stars

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 13/03/2015

» Michelin. The magic culinary mark which should, more or less, ensure your dining experience is on cloud nine, among the stars. Undoubtedly, it is the type of experience only money can buy. Yet, ironically, money cannot always buy it.
