August All Year Round

Guru, Mika Apichatsakol, Published on 21/10/2016

» The setting: A healthy new diner has opened up inside Chidlom's blinding red community mall. Located on Mercury Ville's third floor, August Organic Eatery occupies a corner spot facing Ploenchit Road, which entitles it to a capacious dining space and stunning view of -- Central Chidlom. The entrance is a little cramped, covered in distracting credit card promotion signs during our visit, but past that, the atmosphere made it convincing to stay. White walls are tattooed with hand-painted murals of veggies and also accessorised with bronze-lettered statements. From high tables to plush blue sofas, the choices of seating are as bountiful as the eight month and accommodating enough for a bustling weekday's crowd.

Get your fix at Jones the Grocer

Guru, Mika Apichatsakol, Published on 24/09/2015

» Minimal enclosure of Jones the Grocer, located on EmQuartier's ground floor, further opens the space of an already sizable food shop. There is no real entrance, but instead an absence of barriers, particularly where food is sold, to tempt you into stepping in for a look at cold cuts and condiments. Once you get past the shelves stocked with your pantry's wishlist, you can decide to sit for a meal at one of the tables near the delicatessen you've just admired or further back, near the glass walls closer to the outside environment -- which isn't much, but it is pleasantly lit during the day. If you find more comfort in urban cafe arrangements, there are also communal high tables with stools near the counter where chefs prep, and another grocery area dedicated to wines.

Life's a beach

Guru, Mika Apichatsakol, Published on 11/09/2015

» Relaxation doesn’t always mean doing nothing at a nice hotel. Boathouse by Montara, located on Phuket’s Kata beach, provides enough activities and attractions to keep you from spending your entire getaway in your hotel room. The 26-year-old property, which underwent major renovations three years ago, includes the Boathouse Resort, Boathouse Wine & Grill and the Re Ka Ta Beach Club.
