Humanity vs nature

Life, Melalin Mahavongtrakul, Published on 16/12/2019

» 'Let's go to Khao Yai," a friend recently suggested via text. Along with her invitation, she attached a picture of a woman sitting amid beautiful flowers, clouded with faded hipster filter. No way forward in a frozen state

News, Atiya Achakulwisut, Published on 01/03/2016

» Like Princess Elsa in the animated film Frozen, one could almost imagine Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha singing "Let it go" as he unleashed a proposal to deep-freeze the country in a state of transition for five years.

Scrap the cable car

News, Editorial, Published on 01/03/2016

» There is no explanation of just why the military regime decided to regurgitate the Phu Kradueng cable car project. The government has multiple, urgent tasks to deal with. This old proposal to pockmark the Loei mountain with cable poles has been rejected many times, and for many good reasons. It is not really important what strange reason has caused this old proposal to resurface. It is only important to quickly turn it down again and get back to pressing matters.

Stop trashing our national parks

Life, Anchalee Kongrut, Published on 15/12/2015

» The year-end holidays are approaching and it means millions are going to do some travelling, either locally or overseas, while some may just prefer to seize the opportunity to stay in quiet Bangkok. For Thais, some of the popular destinations are the mountainous national parks, such as Doi Inthanon in Chiang Mai or Khao Yai. Living in a hot climate, we love to seek out the cooler places; last year, just over 93,100 holidaymakers spent their New Year holidays in one of 14 national parks, bringing in revenue of 3.58 million baht, according to the Department of National Parks (DNP).
