Preserving an ancient art

Life, Thana Boonlert, Published on 26/04/2022

» Despite a two-year hiatus, Nutchanat La-ongsri commanded a stage with unwavering power. Donning a large headpiece, she pulled on a white costume with a red strap tied on her upper body. Her back rose up like a bird's tail. She pressed her hands in front, showing silver bracelets and nail tips. Life, Suwitcha Chaiyong, Published on 19/01/2022

Prach attended state schools that did not allow students to speak the local language, Bahasa Melayu, in class. As a result, he cannot speak Bahasa Melayu fluently. When he was in Bangkok, he was mocked by his friends because he spoke Thai with a different accent than Bangkokians. The conflict of his bicultural identity made Prach question who he is and led to the creation of art exhibition "Orang Siyae, Oghae Nayu".

Beyond borders

Life, Kong Rithdee, Published on 18/03/2020

» The two-channel video work by Ampannee Satoh begins with specks of light and ends, naturally, with darkness. Two cameras were attached at the bow and stern of a fishing boat, purportedly the same type used by Rohingya refugees when they fled whatever was hounding them into the sea. The images they captured are wobbly, disoriented, seasick-inducing, and for 20 minutes they simulate the experience of being lost at sea in the middle of the night -- the experience of displaced people unmoored in the lightless sea.

They're model districts

News, Published on 08/07/2018

» The development of the districts in the southern border provinces takes on the model of the so-called "economic triangle". These are Nong Chik district of Pattani, Betong district of Yala and Sungai Kolok district of Narathiwat. Nong Chik is positioned as an agro-industrial district, Betong as a tourist model district and Sungai Kolok as border trade district served by a transport network. The three districts form a development model under the concept highlighted by the proposed economic triangle which simulates private-sector investments that generate employment and income for not only the three districts but nearby areas as well.
