Seeing silver linings

» When the 11th White Elephant Art Award announced its theme "Endless Giving", people in Thailand were facing a difficult time due to lockdown measures to control the spread of Covid-19. Artist Ananyot Jannual said it was so difficult to think about "endless giving" at that time because almost everyone was encountering difficulties of some sort due to the healthcare crisis. However, he came up with Palung Haeng Dok Tantawan (The Power Of The Sunflowers) and won first prize for his powerful oil and acrylic painting.

» Their skilful hands focused on art pieces they were creating, and their eyes were locked on the details. Their hearts, apparently, were with HM the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who passed away on Oct 13 last year. At the Fine Arts Department's Office of Traditional Arts in Nakhon Pathom, two groups of 20 men and women from all walks of life brought out their best during a recent audition where the office recruited volunteers to help official artisans build a royal urn and coffin and sculpt statues for decorating the royal crematorium.

» Last Friday inside the Singapore Art Museum, Pannaphan Yodmanee tiptoed around her giant art installation, an arrangement of ruins and pagodas scattered on the floor, as she tried to find the best spot for a portrait. Once able to set her feet down properly, the commotion started.
