Riverside blooms

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 13/11/2023

» Flowers usually have a knack of refreshing the viewer upon sight, but pairing them with unexpected materials can create a new dynamic beyond natural beauty. This curious mix of flowers with leather, neon lights and monk's bowls, among many other objects, is currently on display at the "Flowers, Rivers & Possibilities" exhibition until Nov 23 at The Peninsula Bangkok.

Killing me softly

Muse, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 10/12/2016

» There's something simple, but exceedingly special about Tawjan Catherine Punyasingh's recently released cookbook Great Food Good Fest. A quick skim through would evoke the same reflex of going "awww" at dog pictures, except there are squid and salted egg lava buns in these pictures, instead. Something about it just warms your heart and fills you with a pressing urge to get up to make these dishes, even if you are the type that couldn't cook to save yourself. Perhaps it is the book's realistic nature, and as we meet at her home, she whips up a strawberry hazelnut chocolate tart and pumpkin and corn croquette for us -- something even the most hopeless can make this holiday season.

Forget historical accuracy, this is all about Hrithik's abs

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 19/08/2016

» This obviously isn't going to win any Academy Award nominations. Director Ashutosh Gowariker may have been lauded for his taxing period drama Lagaan, which earned a nomination for the Oscar's Best Foreign Language Film in 2002, but his latest film, Mohenjo Daro, is a clichéd period epic that offers a confused peek into the past of a place that is now a Unesco World Heritage site. I mean, if you want "exotic" costumes, epic sets and a hero-unknowingly-related-to-this-city plot, this is just the thing.

Marathi warrior vs Ayutthaya oarsman

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 07/01/2016

» History need not be boring. Tales of two historical heroes have hit cinemas: Bajirao from India and Pantai Norasingh from Siam, and as rosy (or muddied) as they get upon shape-shifting into films, they are hype-worthy cinematic goodies that rival the dominance of the Force.

Daddy cool

Muse, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 05/12/2015

» You are prone to catching the fashion bug when you have a father who would “change his outfit four times a day, even if all he did was sit on the porch”, Pusit Patthanaprakan says of his own dressy dad.

Picture-perfect sushi and more

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 27/03/2015

» Do pictures of sushi flood your social newsfeed? Does it ever get tedious to upload visually bland pictures of slabs of fish and mundane pictures of the fat-filled, pink otoro? If you're a fan of premium sushi, but don't have the taste buds of an absolute purist, Moe Sushi & Bar might just answer your cravings. Open since January, this is the place to go for that perfect photo of a particularly gorgeous piece of sushi, perhaps wrapped with Wagyu. And topped with a quail egg. And uni. And caviar.

Swiss sights, sounds a moss-see

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 20/03/2015

» If a visit to the famed "valley of the watchmakers" in  Switzerland's Vallee de Joux is a bit out of your league, Audemars Piguet's installation in the Collector's Lounge at this year's Art Basel Hong Kong was a decent stand-in, bringing springtime at its factory to you.

Towers of ice cream make crowds loopy

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 07/11/2014

» It's the kind of ice cream you only see in the cartoons — until now, that is. Piled vertically right on top of each other, the scoops (ordered by the sane) don't usually exceed two or three, although the owner of Emack and Bolio's tells us some crazy cats out there have created a tower of 10.

Better for life

» There's probably nothing like spending four hours every morning putting on the Mrs Doubtfire costume to really understand what elderly people go through.

Bosom buddy

Muse, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 05/10/2013

» It sounds a little too good to be true, but our intelligent race has contrived a mechanical device that can enlarge the human breast - in fact, it has been on sale in the United States for a decade. Medically proven and backed by research, it is known as the Brava AFT System.
