Imposters use fake warrant and violence

» Wuttipong Boonma, owner of an internet cafe in Banglamung, was assaulted by men professing to be copyright agents. The unidentified men presented what looked like a fake warrant claimed to be from Pattaya court. When Wuttipong protested, the fraudsters broke his jaw and escaped with several computers. Police said they would question the owner further once he recovers from the attack, and that they would check the café’s CCTV.

New credit card scam hits Pattaya

» Pattaya tourists and expats are being warned by police not to give out personal details on the phone after the latest credit card catastrophe hit town. Major credit card companies have acknowledged the widespread fraud being perpetrated and have advised potential victims to terminate the conversation and to hang up the moment they are even remotely suspicious.

Fake cards net 10 million baht

» Following a stakeout by Pattaya police and investigators from Thai Farmers Bank, two Estonian nationals were arrested and charged with using fake credit cards.  Mr Prijatkin Maksim and Mr Melnik Aleksandr, both in their early 20s, were said to have come directly to Pattaya after arriving in Thailand on tourist visas last August.  They were in possession of 40 fake credit cards from Scandinavia, UK, US and South Korea and extracted cash from ATM machines and as well as having a spending spree in upmarket malls.  Their last residence was in Soi 13, Thepprasit Road, where police found a huge pile of incriminating evidence suggesting that the scam had succeeded in stealing 10 million baht.
