» This year marks the 100th anniversary of the conception of anime, or Japanese animated cartoons. To commemorate this milestone, online streaming titan Netflix recently hosted their Anime Slate 2017 in Tokyo, detailing their plans to produce and release over 20 original and platform-exclusive anime series and films by the end of next year. Some of the notable titles include remakes of classics like Godzilla and Devilman Crybaby, as well as a live action adaptation of the popular manga series Death Note.

But with their own TV, anime and manga series, as well as the record for "highest selling musical act in Japan in terms of singles sold", AKB48, with 48 members, are a long-standing Japanese idol girl-group known for their super-cute style and catchy tunes. It has been described as a national phenomenon in its country of origin, with a devoted fanbase that has followed the band's songs and merchandise since its inception over a decade ago in 2005.

» Copyright and intellectual property recently became a high-profile controversy again, after a restaurant owner in Phrae reported a visit from a representative of veteran music and entertainment company GMM Grammy. The owner, who played music in his store through YouTube, said he had to pay 20,000 baht in copyright fees to the representative, who was also accompanied by a police officer.
