» The Association of Investment Management Companies (AIMC) and other local institutional investors’ decision to sanction CP All for its failure to act on the insider trading scandal is welcomed. On Thursday, AIMC agreed not to increase its stake in CP All until the operator of the 7-Eleven convenience stores punishes the CP All executives found guilty of insider trading.

» Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha left on Sunday and arrives back home tomorrow from California. He is attending the first formal meeting between US and Asean leaders ever held outside the region. President Barack Obama hosted the meeting so he could get across his thoughts on China's actions in the South China Sea and also on the fight against rising terrorist threats in the region. It was such a good idea it should go on the diplomatic calendar.

» On April 1, California governor Jerry Brown announced the first ever state-wide water use restrictions, issuing an executive decree mandating a 25% reduction of urban water use. At the time of the imposition of the restrictions, California was in the middle of severe drought with snowpack, the source of water in the state, reduced to about 6% of what is normally available.
