Perfecting penmanship

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 30/03/2018

» Daniel Kohler is the name to have on your speed dial if you are a pen collector. Then again, if you are inclined towards the precious and pricey types of writing instruments, you probably already have Montblanc's head of client relations and high artistry on your contact list. But for those who are just starting out with collecting and happened to miss his visit to Bangkok last month, fret not, because we also didn't get to see the €1.5 million (57.8 million baht) pen we had hoped to see in real life at a private suite at the Okura Prestige either.

The art of used plastic, courtesy of Vivienne Westwood

» Britain's dame of punk, Vivienne Westwood, is known for taking modern punk mainstream, but she is also outspoken on environmental issues. It is no surprise that her latest collection to drop in stores for spring summer 2018, Anglomania, draws most of its motifs from the concept of saving the world through sustainability and using less plastic.

New looks, old values

» 'Whatchu lookin' at?" Rattanarat "Ploy" Aurthaveekul might have yelled back to her husband's stare before they leave the house. Her taunting look is, however, followed by a sheepish chuckle, before she adds: "Gosh, this outfit is actually really uncomfortable and kind of revealing too. I guess I should go change." Gone are her fashionably freewheeling days -- her closet now tipping more mother than model. But that's about the most that has changed for this style icon, best known as one half of the modelling/actress twins Petch-Ploy.

Putting the fun into handbags

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 17/07/2015

» There's still some room for colour and a pop of fun before autumn completely kicks in. Lots of houses seem to think so too, with their pre-fall clutches, totes and satchels still rocking hot shades and a little bit of cheek. Grab your cheery fix before all the collections start turning all dark and broody for next season.

A head of the curve

Muse, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 09/05/2015

» Sometimes a woman would really rather be trampled by a stampede of flaming elephants than go through their daily, seemingly never-ending, exhaustive skincare regimen. As if looking after the face wasn't time-consuming enough — the routine now extends to hair. Conditioners, mousses, sprays, oils and even primers are available for the hair.

Curating cultural creativity

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 20/03/2015

» It's a continuous run on the treadmill for art collectors and design devotees when the art fair season kicks off in January. March is undoubtedly a peak period, with exhibitions going on every weekend. The most prominent one in Asia, Art Basel Hong Kong, something of a high-end art supermarket, wrapped up on Tuesday. The fair saw over 3,000 artists around the world touch down at the gateway to Asia for the third year to beguile the moneyed and style-savvy art connoisseurs.

The taste of an estate

» One half of the Dilmah brand — Dilhan Fernando — laughs when asked how he feels about his name being used as part of the moniker of his family's single-origin tea. "I suppose we are used to it," adds the youngest son of Dilmah's founder, Merrill J. Fernando. His older brother, Malik, makes up the other half of Dilmah, named from a combination of the first syllables of both names put together. "But it's a big responsibility because when our own name is there, it means we have to make sure the product is good."

The hand of fate

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 19/11/2012

» Even though beauty sleep would have been preferred, Thai children used to drag themselves out of bed every morning to be greeted by Khun Thong, the chatty mynah bird that started a show which should by now be considered part of Thailand's national identity, Chao Khun Thong.
