OPINION

The time I really put my foot in it

Oped, Roger Crutchley, Published on 19/10/2025

» A half-hearted spring-cleaning session at home during the week came to a welcome halt when I unearthed a couple of my father's wartime RAF books under a pile of disintegrating paperbacks. » Re: “Court to hear Srettha case”, (BP, May 24) and “Thailand’s judiciary face challenges”, (Opinion, May 24). Prof Thitinan Pongsudhirak’s biting comments on the judiciary’s influence on the lifeline of an elected prime minister are most justified based on past events. For the coming challenge facing our Constitutional Court, it is different from the past. The court’s 5-4 vote not suspending PM Srettha’s lifeline before he has the chance of defence is laudable.

» Re: "Call to end alcohol ban", (BP, Jan 15). Is history being rewritten? 1972? In happier and somewhat simpler times, I was drinking or purchasing beer cheerfully during the afternoon back in the early 1980s and subsequently anywhere in Thailand.
