The top rumour was that Apple would produce a new rose gold colour for the next iPhone. » A couple of weeks ago my MacBook Pro came back from Mac Center. It has now returned to its usual stable condition. Apart from running a hardware check that found nothing, Mac Center tell me that they reset the system management controller (SMC) and the board logic, then wiped the hard disk. It was returned to me with a basic OS X (10.1) installation.

» Macs sometimes go wrong. Many problems may be software-related, but I have had hardware let me down too. My 12-inch PowerBook needed battery replacement under an Apple programme, and a later MacBook Pro ate a battery every year. Two computers had hard disk failures: a 15-inch MacBook Pro under warranty, and my iMac after five years of use. With backups, I lost no data.
