Published caption : King Rama III had strong faith in Buddhism. He donated his own money towards building several new temples and restoring more than 20 old temples. Wat Ratchanaddaram Worawihan was built on the king’s order in 1846 in honour of his granddaughter HRH Princess Somanas Vadhanavadi (1834-1852) who later became Queen Somanas Vadhanavadi of King Rama IV. King Rama III created the plan and design himself and ordered Somdet Chao Phraya Borom Maha Pichaiyat (Thas Bunnag) who was then Phraya Sriphiphat Ratchakosa to be in charge of the construction of this temple. Still, the front gable of the ordination hall sports a stucco motif depicting Princess Somanas Vadhanavadi’s heart-shaped symbol. Wat Ratchanaddaram is open 8am-5pm daily. Admission is free.
