Published caption : Wat Lat Krabang is located near the Bangkok-Chon Buri motorway, Rom Klao Road and Khlong Prawet Burirom. It is well-known for its huge white Buddha statue, which the locals call Luang Phor Khao. Made of bricks, covered with lime and painted white, the statue portrays the Lord Buddha in the Subduing Mara posture and is 2.7m wide and almost 9.8m tall. The foundation stone-laying ceremony for the construction of Luang Phor Khao was performed on the same day in 1908 that King Rama V formally opened the Bangkok-Paed Riew (Chachoengsao) railway. The king passed the temple that day and saw the stone-laying ceremony in progress. Many people come to make wishes before the Luang Phor Khao statue. After their wish is fulfilled, they return to make offering of seven-coloured garlands, toy fish, hard-boiled eggs, egg-based desserts, jackfruit and other kinds of fruit. Some especially grateful people will commission a drum dance or an entire likay or lakhon (types of stage drama) performance. In the sixth lunar month, this temple hosts the Atthamee Bucha ceremony in commemoration of the cremation of the Lord Buddha.
