Wat Ratchapradit and Wat Ratchabophit are separated by much more than the old city moat. Published caption : Wat Ratchabophit was built from 1869 to 1870, on orders from King Rama V, as the symbolic temple of his reign. Its ordination hall is in traditional Thai style on the outside, but its interior is decorated with a mix of Thai, Romantic and Victorian styles. The interior walls and ceiling reflect Western art and blend with traditional Thai floral motifs. Some features are inspired by gothic-style pointed arches, pilasters and friezes. Above the arch of the entrance is the mark of King Rama V in Western style. On the temple grounds, some of funeral monuments for royals were built in gothic and renaissance styles.
